Nicole Kidman took a stroll down memory lane, reminiscing about her time filming “Eyes Wide Shut” alongside her ex-husband, Tom Cruise. The 1999 film, directed by Stanley Kubrick, had always been a significant part of her career, and she recently shared her thoughts on the experience and the director’s possible inspirations from her and Cruise’s real-life relationship.
Kidman, who was married to Cruise for 10 years until their split in 2001, revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that Kubrick might have been influenced by their relationship. “I suppose he was mining it,” she said. “There were ideas he was interested in. He’d ask a lot of questions. But he had a strong sense of the story he was telling. I do remember him saying, ‘Triangles are hard. You have to tread carefully when it’s a triangle.’”
She reflected on Kubrick’s awareness and sensitivity, adding, “Because one person could feel ganged up on. But he was aware of that and knew how to manage us.”
Kidman, now 57, also spoke about the unique rapport both she and Cruise had with Kubrick during the filming process. Despite the challenges, she emphasized the director’s ability to navigate their complex dynamics effectively. The couple, who share two children, Isabella, 31, and Connor, 29, had built a professional and personal history that undoubtedly added layers to their on-screen performances.
