Celebrated Islamic missioner, Sheikh Sheikh Hamad Labeeb Lagbaji, has backed the Grand Mufti of the Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa, over the way he handled the matter between popular musician, Wasiu Ayinde, and alfas.
He said Onikijipa acted wisely by not dragging the ‘ganusi’ issue with the fuji legend when it came up during the fidau prayer for the latter’s mother.
He said over-stressing it would endanger his life because of the presence of those he called street boys loyal to the artiste.
Onikijipa, while conducting the prayer for Ayinde’s late mother, had asked him to apologise for earlier saying that certain alfas ‘ganu si’ – that is, lay siege to his home – instead of going to the place where the mother died or to his father’s house.
‘Ganusi’, which surfaced in a viral video in which Ayinde is seen talking to someone, is calculated to be insulting to the clerics.
As a result, a lot of Islamic missioners have been slamming the musician.
Some have also berated Onikijipa for continuing to conduct the prayer after Ayinde, who believes he committed no crime against the clerics, refused to apologise.
But, in a video circulating online, Lagbaji said Onikijipa had done the best thing.
He argued that dragging the matter could lead to chaos and endanger his life.
This is as he pleaded for understanding and forgiveness for the musician.
